How fucking insane are republicans?  They're opposing unemployment benefits during a pandemic, when we need people to stay home?  SERIOUSLY?

Can a republican here explain this insane fucking logic?

How are they going to force people to go out and work during a pandemic for minimum wage if they give them enough money to survive on?

Isn't it also funny how undocumented immigrants need to "get out", but they're also disproportionately deemed "essential" in our economy?

This fucking country is 250 years overdue for a serious reckoning.

That’s the funny thing essential workers are working at minimum wage or close to it and some had their hours reduced so they’re making less yet they don’t qualify for any unemployment benefits let alone the additional payment. I think a percentage of prior pay would be a good idea for both the unemployed and essential workers once the states get the technology figured out. No sense some hurting while others are getting a windfall.

I don’t buy that the payments are keeping people from going back to work, I just think the allocation can be fine-tuned to better serve equity.  Whether the percent of prior pay is 70% or 150%, if it applies to all workers making less than $X, whether employed or not, that’s equity.  Also eliminate the one time payments that go to everybody, regardless of change in income, in favor of this more equitable form of payment.

Canada just sends $2k to every citizen.  Every month.  That's what people need (at minimum) to be motivated to stay home.  The administrative costs of breaking it down by income level would be cost-prohibitive.  Just give people money and lockdown orders.  We fucked up the first lockdown we need to get this one right, and that means massive direct payments, massive closures, and everyone hunker down.
