Question:  What's going on with Utah's recruiting for 2018?  While the commits the Utes now have look strong, there are only 7 so far.  Every other Pac-12 team has from 11 to 22.  In fact, no team in any Power 5 conference has that low a number of commitments as Utah, with Kansas next lowest at 9.  Is this just a cycle that has very few scholarship slots for Utah?  Is something else going on?

I am guessing it is a combination of kids waiting to see if they get an offer from a bigger name program, and Utah waiting on some higher rated kids.

In the past couple of days Utah has gotten commitments from 3* JC WR Jeremiah Jordan and 3* OG Braeden Daniels, raising its total up to 9.

Roughly how many 2018 scholarship openings are expected for the Utes?

Utah only has between 10-15 scholarships available this year with returning missionaries and push forwards from last year. However, a couple of our commits this year will also be going on missions, so they won't take up any of those initials. I think we'll end up with around 17 or so kids in this class.

We're sitting at 10 commits now with LB Bryant Pirtle "committing" last night. He's been a silent commit for a little while, but his JC coach let the cat out of the bag on Twitter last night and a Utah fan recruiting account ran with it. He didn't seem too happy about not being able to announce it himself.

Mater Dei is kicking DLS's ass right now, 28-7 in the second quarter. Mater Dei might be one of the best HS teams of all time

They probably are the best team of all time -- certainly on paper.  DLS needs a quality QB to run the veer against the upper echelon HS defenses or it doesn't work.  DLS with Bart Houston or Matt Gutierrez at QB would have been a great match for this Mater Dei squad.  Also, it's evident that Bob Ladouceur is a much better coach -- particularly defensively -- than Justin Alumbaugh ever will be.  DLS will probably never be the program they once were.  Folsom was probably the best team in the Bay Area this year and will probably be the best team going forward.  It's unfortunately they decided to not play in the Open Division and instead, destroy division 1.

Cal is going to "lose" JT Shrout (28 TDs 25 INT's) to Tennessee and is probably going to gain the commitment of Zach Wilson, who I like much better.  This will be the 2nd QB Cal has lost to Tennessee this recruiting class haha.  I am much sadder about losing Adrian Martinez than Shrout.
