i still don't think he'll waive his no-trade clause, but Woj was on the radio today and said he's heard lillard and mccollum have made real (tangible) progress on recruiting carmelo to portland.

I don't even think it will matter.

I'm guessing if they do trade him, randle will be a Cav with Clarkson?  For salary reasons?

Which trades make sense for Cleveland to trade LeBron?

Trade LBJ?  The only player I'd even considered for him, and he wouldn't be able to carry Cleveland to the finals, is Durant.

Rather than lose him for nothing ... again?  I don't see the Cavs allowing that to happen, and no matter LeBron's feelings toward Gilbert, he's not going to fuck over Cleveland again.  Plus a trade makes more sense for him anyhow since he can be traded where he wants and not have to worry about that team clearing cap space to sign him after the season because they'd have his Bird rights.

Bug's Laker scenario seems plausible.  LeBron's never got to play with a pass-first PG like Lonzo Ball.  Should extend his career not having to drive from the perimeter to the rim with the ball as often when a pass from Ball as a cutter is much less taxing on the body.

Quite a bit of noise about the Celtics moving a package including Al Horford for James already surfacing.

That would barely keep the Cavs as a top 5 eastern team.

If he's really leaving and Kyrie wants out soon, they aren't winning a title this year anyhow.  It would be foolish to let him go and get nothing in return.  At least this time it seems he's giving Cleveland a head's up to get something of value.  Top 5 this year?  Gilbert should be more worried about the next ten years than having a superstar halfway out th door this year who doesn't like his PG and hates his owner.

What's better, trade for a bunch of second rate players, who basically make Cleveland the Portland of the east.  Or take your chances building from the bottom again?

The only reason they aren't still at the bottom is because LeBron is from Akron.  There was no rebuild, even with Kyrie and Trystan Thompson, they flat-out sucked until LeBron saved them and got Kevin Love onboard, too.

Building from the bottom after he left had them a joke franchise for four years until he returned home to win a title from Cleveland elevating a bad-to-mediocre team to a title by recruiting players.  That doesn't seem like a practical rebuilding plan to try and repeat.  Who the fuck wants to play in Cleveland unless you are from the area?

Portland IS their ceiling unless another Top 5 all-time player decides he wants to spend 4 years in Cleveland.  They're not going to compete for titles in the future barring a miracle, but they'd better be competitive to keep their fans.  Especially since Gilbert is going to be blamed for running out LeBron.
