The people that matter at USC care too much about the other sports to make that viable. They woulsnt stand for second tier status for the smaller sports

Yeah — Not sure the PAC-12 would be all that eager to allow all of usc’s other teams to continue to compete in the conference ala Notre Dame

Apparently they are blaming the Pac-12 for the Friday night road game at Wazzu after a Saturday road game & pointing out how Alabama gets a bye before LSU & Mercer before Auburn.

But you can thank Wilner for planting the “The Pac-12 doesn’t give its playoff hopefuls any breaks” seed.

I will agree that there is no reason to have Stanford & USC knock each other down the polls in the second week of the season every year.  You can’t blame our Notre Dame games for everything.

The Pac11 would tell SC to pound sand, and refuse to play them in any other sports.  They would ultimately hurt themselves with this move, while we would just run out and add Texas.

Going independent would make no sense. Now working with some other (potentially) unhappy major schools to create something new I could see. Unlikely but more likely than going independent.

At the end of the day the solution is obvious (and coming in 2025 at the latest) and that is expanding to 8 teams with automatic bids for P5 champs. This is coming, its only a matter of time.
