row Z
listening to it now. You guys do a good job. Some provocative comments from Ryan about the future of the conference and whether USC might be better off in a different arrangement.
Scscsc89
Yeah — that’s a popular offseason topic among the Trojan message board circle jerk. however, the USC administration has shown no signs of interest in shaking up the status quo. MrBug708
The people that matter at USC care too much about the other sports to make that viable. They woulsnt stand for second tier status for the smaller sports

Scscsc89
I like Ryan, but come on, you haven’t thought this through.
MrBug708
It's a pretty simple concept, had USC not played Notre dame or lost any Pac 12 games, they'd be in the playoffs. Neither are the fault of the Pac
Scscsc89
Apparently they are blaming the Pac-12 for the Friday night road game at Wazzu after a Saturday road game & pointing out how Alabama gets a bye before LSU & Mercer before Auburn. But you can thank Wilner for planting the “The Pac-12 doesn’t give its playoff hopefuls any breaks” seed. I will agree that there is no reason to have Stanford & USC knock each other down the polls in the second week of the season every year. You can’t blame our Notre Dame games for everything. They would ultimately hurt themselves with this move, while we would just run out and add Texas.
glduck
that would never work, though. USC: hey we have an opening, you down for a home-and-home? (MOST OF THE PAC-12): and play a game in southern california? you betcha! schools wouldn't turn down that kind of recruiting exposure.

youngorst
Going independent would make no sense. Now working with some other (potentially) unhappy major schools to create something new I could see. Unlikely but more likely than going independent. At the end of the day the solution is obvious (and coming in 2025 at the latest) and that is expanding to 8 teams with automatic bids for P5 champs. This is coming, its only a matter of time. Scscsc89
... except expanding to an 8-team playoff, while solving some problems, doesn’t address the reasons that USC would be consididering (or threatening to) go independent.
