5* CB Chris Steele transfers from Florida after enrolling early, then commits solidly to UO,  then takes a visit to USC Monday and is now considered a USC lock and deletes his Oregon Tweets.

If I'm a top program, I get him on campus the last possible day before LOI day.  Last visit wins?

Impressive offer list...even has an Iowa offer and they had two TEs go in the first round of the NFL Draft.  It's easy to scream legacy scholarship but I think the kid could stand on his own if he had a different last name.

So nice to see the TE position a priority in Boulder again.

For the most part, the Pac-12 currently trails other p5 conferences in the 2020 recruiting standings.  One of the reasons is that a number of Pac-12 teams have a lower number of commitments than many schools in other P5 conferences.  Teams with more commitments have a better chance of scoring higher in this ranking.  The current national recruiting standings according to the 247 composite ranking are as follows:

  • 11th: Oregon, with 14 total commits, of which 6 are four-stars.
  • 39th: California, with 12 total commits, no four-stars.
  • 41st: Stanford, with 8 total commits, 1 five-star and 3 four-stars.
  • 42nd: Colorado, with 11 total commits, 2 four-stars.
  • 48th: USC, with 9 total commits, 2 four-stars.
  • 51st: Arizona State, with 10 total commits, 1 four-star.
  • 59th: Washington, with 7 total commits, 3 four-stars.
  • 63rd: Oregon State, with 9 total commits, no four-stars.
  • 81st: UCLA, with 5 total commits, 1 four-star.
  • 83rd: Washington State, with 5 total commits, no four-stars.
  • 84th: Arizona, with 5 total commits, no four-stars.
  • 97th: Utah, with 3 total commits, no four-stars.

Some bottom line thoughts as the summer dead period begins:  Oregon is working on all cylinders and currently is the class of the league in 2020 recruiting.  Stanford, as is usually the case, has fewer recruits, but they do have some commitments from high quality blue chips.  Cal and Colorado are active and successful, particularly CU given that they have a new coaching staff.  USC isn't looking at all like the USC of old in the unusually low number of five and four-star commitments they have gotten.  UDub has a ways to go, but apparently are in on some quality recruits who have yet to commit.  UCLA, compared to past years, is off to a very weak start.  WSU is where they always are at this stage.  More might have been expected at this point from Arizona ... and Utah is the last one out of the gates.

Make that 41st: Washington, with 8 total commits, 4 four-stars, as 4 star WR and #45 overall Jalen McMillan commits to UW.
