KUGRDON
Not official but widely reported. Oh well. Hope its not a long term guaranteed deal. This is the day before April Fools, maybe this is a joke.

PapaG
It was obvious from the day Bone was fired. http://www.pac12board.com/index.php/topic/3562-wsu-deboned/?p=53976

KUGRDON
Andy Katz is reporting that he has talked with Kent and confirms that he accepted the job. Press conference Wednesday. If I could have had Howland or Kent, I'd have gone with Howland. 1) Not sure the kids will know who Kent is. 2) Can he recruit kids athletic enough to run his style to Pullman? glduck
going from memory so I could easily be wrong, but I think he only had 3 losing seasons here, in 13 years. we just got tired of the long gaps in between relevance and the unbalanced recruiting. he did architect the two best seasons in school history, at least since 1939. Moos couldn't get whoever it was he wanted so came back to Kent.
KUGRDON
he's an extremely personable/likeable black guy. the parents will love him, anyway. That would mean something if there wasn't a more personable, more likeable, younger and better known black guy (without a mistress) at UW.

How many other Pac-12 schools have a coach who has made 1 Elite Eight, let alone 2? Arizona with Miller? Given the circumstances, Big Ern will be a good steward for the Wazzu program for the next 6 or so years, and then some younger coach can try to build on it. At least Wazzu will be fun to watch! EDIT to remove Monty, who just retired.
KUGRDON
I hope so. We'll have to see if he is relevant with the high school kids. A lot is going to ride on his assistants. It looks to be a great match for WSU's top committed recruit, Tramaine Isabell 3* PG from Garfield in Seattle. The best thing I keep forgetting. . .he is better than Bone. Quack 12
That would mean something if there wasn't a more personable, more likeable, younger and better known black guy (without a mistress) at UW. Cameron Dollar is at Seattle U. Seriously though, Don, what makes Romar more personable and likeable than Kent? That seems rather subjective. And how do you know he doesn't have a mistress? He certainly isn't "better known." Ernie's been on TV for a year and a half. Oh, and Romar is all of three-and-a-half years younger that Kent. Oh, and Romar is all of three-and-a-half years younger that Kent. Romar was never at Oregon! Bottom line, I don't think being black and all those other good things will mean much given that Romar is at UW and played at UW and is better known among the Seattle Tacoma Area kids. The hire is not going over well up here. Not a single person I've talked to or who has posted on fan sites is excited. Those most supportive of the hire go into a cerebral account of his past accomplishments but can't really tie it to anything in the now. Again, no excitement. This wasn't like hiring Leach or Dick Bennett. We'll have to warm to the guy. They've got Raveling selling him now. Fans were not looking for a retread and were hoping for someone on the rise. Swallow hard and hope for the best. Five year rollover deal.

Ern was a great recruiter. Both Fred Jones and Aaron Brooks wanted to strangle him by the team they left Eugene, but he did get them to play well on the court. The entire Malik Hairston/Bryce Taylor/Aaron Brooks years were mostly a bust, though, until Tajuan Porter lit it up in Spokane to get them out of there and eventually to the Elite Eight. PAC MAN
I think this is a good hire. Vetearn coach who is closer to the end of his career and wouldn't go anywhere. At least he isn't a Big Sky coach and glduck, Kent did coach at a WAC school at CSU in the late '80's.
