Orange
I gotta think they back down. This planned parenthood thing just does not have the legs that fox believes it has.
PAC MAN
I'd say it's likely. Government employees will get paid on the week of the shutdown and also before that happens. Also for some government employees such as myself, we use flex days on Fridays which would mean we would miss just one day worth of pay on our first paychecks in October which would be no big deal as we would be getting paid for at least 30 hours of work. It will be a big problem by the end of October when rent & mortgages are due for December. That's why the lawmakers use this time of the year to play their games with the budget. This is over Planned Parenthood and selling body parts of aborted babies. I was sickened & hate the idea of lives being cut so short through abortions but at the same time, some babies need body parts to be able to survive so it's better than nothing. One could say that if Planned Parenthood is making a lot of money in that business, why would they need taxpayer money to continue to run?
glduck
uh, because they aren't making money doing that.
Quack 12
Considering that neither the republican-controlled house nor senate has done a goddamned thing but shut down the government in the past several years, I'd say it's at least a 50 percent chance they'll do it again. Mano
I think the TPers are itching to shut it down, but I believe it will backfire on them again if they do.

Thanks for the paid time off.

Scscsc89
Can you imaging how the GOP presidential candidates will fall all over themselves telling congress they're not shutting down enough?
PAC MAN
http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/2015/09/21/Another-Government-Shutdown-Washington-Prepares-Nervous-Breakdown Harry Reid of Nevada just introduced a bill that will pay government employees their full salary in the event of a shutdown. Well I guess it's going to happen over Planned Parenthood. The House passed a bill that would suspend Planned Parenthood's money for one year while Congress investigates but it sounds like Obama will just veto it. That bill also would put that money at other places that are said to be overswamped and further away from where people would go for Planned Parenthood. The Dems will sustain Obama's veto in this case. The Repubs need to let it go or it will cost them dearly in next year's elections.

KUGRDON
I wonder why Obama would shut down the government over this? I mean Congress would pass a bill fully funding the government and Obama would really veto it and shut down the government because Congress did not give money to a private entity? Really? You can't be serious. WTF?

Orange
No, really, congress wants to end funding for PP and will shut down the government to do it? So, in other words, they're SO against women's health (only for poor people) that they will use that excuse to shut down the government? Do you guys, like, not WANT the White House? KUGRDON
If they give the President the money for all government functions, they aren't shutting down shit. Lol
mysfit
Despite the tone deafness of the nutjob tea partiests, no there won't be a shut down. They're giving Cruz his shut it all down bill to vote on and once it gets laughed off the floor they will go to a clean bill. SOME of the GOP has learned it's lesson and won't allow the grandstanding and empty, meaningless gestures.
mysfit
Let's talk about capping profit margins for any business engaged in health care be it drugs, insurance or equipment. Jacking the price of a drug from $13.50 to $750 in order to fund research? Cap the profit margins. People are so fucking greedy anymore. Instead they rally around falsified information in an attempt to defund women's health programs. Get a fucking clue conservatives. You aren't a majority in this country, not even close. Continuing to pander to the extremists is killing the GOP. You keep picking fights you cannot win.....................because the rest of the country has moved past it. KUGRDON
My skewed description accurately describes the process. The only way the Republicans can shut down the government is if they failed to pass a budget or continuing resolution. To be fair, that is not out of the question. mysfit
The Repubs will shut the government down if they fail to pass something Obama won't veto And EVERYONE knows it They didn't win last time when they shut everything down over Obamacare If they continue to push defunding PP, it will be vetoed and they will again be blamed and rightfully so. Pass the damn budget and deal with the issues without holding the country hostage. The majority doesn't like that tactic. And it won't work any better than it did last time. I think the GOP leadership knows this and they are just trying to figure out how to pass a clean resolution without the nutjobs trying to unseat Boehner.
