Cut the cord. I recently bought a fire TV recast which allows me to record over the air stations. I also bought a fire cube to access various streaming services.  I mostly watch over the air broadcast, especially PBS programming, and a lot of CNN as background. I currently have just the free services like fire recast, free sea, Hulu, Pluto TV and Roku.  So I get the PBS channels that I want and  I get the local news stations OTA and the odds sitcom that I will watch on network TV.  Remember I can record anything OTA.

The holes in My programming are live CNN and sports.  I can pick up live CNN, all of the ESPN channels, fox sports, mlb and Pac 12 network for the $40 orange sling subscription with an $11 sports package add-on total $51 a month.  That doesn’t seem too bad (equivalent service on Dish was $122). I only have to have sling orange during football season so my tv will be nearly free the rest of the year.  Savings about &1000 1 year. Any suggestions?

I might try out the orange sling service during pac 12 tourney and march madness.

I would imagine you also get Amazon Prime ( we had it for free shipping, streaming is a bonus ), Several good series have been on that,

I get Paramount + for free with my subscription to 247 sports. Has all the Taylor Sheridan shows, as well as all Star Trek series.

I get Peacock for free with Comcast Internet ( had to get their streaming box, which is free, but never set it up ).

Also have Youtube app on the firestick.

I just found wsu livestream by using the internet app on my tv.  Watching WSU v Oregon baseball now.  I had no idea this existed.

The cutting the cord experiment could not be going better.  My Dish bill was $120 a month including sports add on.  Post cord cutting  I subscribed to Sling Orange $40,  Orange sports add on $10, PBS $5 for $55 a month.  Have Hulu, Prime, Paramount, Netflix free from relatives or some promo (Walmart delivery gives me Paramount).  All the content I want and saving little over $70 a month.  Will be a little cheaper in April because I can drop Orange Sports add on.  If Padres and Mariners get interesting I can add something to watch them.

I guess I have MLB in my Sling Sports package so I’ll be able to get some Mariners and Padre games there.  Still learning lol

Boy, do I feel like an idiot for not cutting cord earlier.  I found everything I use from Sling orange from other sources for free so I was able to cancel that so that saves me $51 a month. I’m thinking of adding MLB for $25 a month so I can watch the Mariners and padres out of market games so basically for 30 bucks a month, I’m getting way more than I got from Dish for $95 a month.  in the fall I’ll have to get ESPN, FS1 and PAC-12 Network.  Worst case scenario is to add sling orange and the sports ad on for $50 a month.

A little tip on Sling. You can switch back and forth between orange and blue for no cost.

A little news in bullet point fashion.  I had a rough 6 mos.

1. September:  Hurt my back and was taking pain killers and muscle relaxer.

2.  October-November: Suffered partial facial paralysis due to Bell’s Palsy  “event.”  Vision, speech, taste and hearing impaired.

Though I followed the prescription I was over medicated and suffered from hallucinations and delusions and loss of balance and coordination. I also became extremely dehydrated.  This all led to a fall hitting the ground   with my forehead with resultant concussion.

3. December: Treatment for the foregoing resulted in multiple MRI, CT Scan and X-rays.  During this process there were abnormalities seen in throat, lungs, spine and digestive tract.  Referred to oncologist for multiple biopsies.  I also began rapid weight loss going from 206 to 176 in 30 days.

4.  January:  Continued loss of mobility, hearing and very rapid loss of vision, vision changing, degenerating daily then hourly.  Specialists discovered swelling of optical nerves and possible swelling of brain thought to be connected with fall and concussion.  Sent to emergency room.  Swelling of brain confirmed cause uncertain.  Transferred to UW Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.  They discovered I had picked up a bacterial infection that lodged in my brain causing the swelling there and in optic nerves.  I also had bumps on my head like ski moguls that were constantly rising and lowering, some bumps diminishing as others rose.  Spent 14 days on antibacterial IV.  As I recovered I was told I was probably within hours of death.

5. February: Returned to oncologist to complete thorough cancer screening and over the course of the month was seriodically cleared of brain, throat, spinal and intestinal cancer and disease.

6.  March: Though ninety percent of people suffering from Bell’s Palsy recover within 90 days, I didn’t.  Quite possibly because of all the other physical problems.  Will have surgery to lift and tighten eyelid to more completely be able to close eye, relieve light sensitivity and prevent drying of eye.  Still have limited mobility, strength, balance and stamina they are trying to figure cause and treatment.

Sorry that took awhile to chronicle.  The odd thing was I was resigned to death and was never in fear or dread.  I was surrounded by loving family and was never in pain or discomfort.  I have to say that I would have died but for the insistence of my sister that I go to Seattle for treatment.  Had she not been there and fought with me I would have died.

I am now comfortable and happy, just bored out of my mind.  My vision, hearing, mobility and sense of taste are very impaired so not much to do but go to the next doctors appointment.  \_(ツ)_/¯

I left out tons, anemia, acute kidney failure, weakness so profound that I could not cough or sneeze, incontinence (I pissed all over the MRI machine) extreme constipation, anal bleeding, loss of consciousness from lack of oxygen, anemia, extremely high blood sugar.  I was seeing scores of bunnies playing with my Chihuahuas on the kitchen floor.  At one point one of my nephews was staying with me and I got him to take me to the grocery store.  I was pushing the cart and using it to hold myself up.  He ran ahead to get some things and when he returned I had slipped to and was sitting on the floor totally exhausted.
I was literally a pile of non-functioning or malfunctioning organs.

As I was typing this I got a message related to a blood test that was just completed.  I tested positive for endomysial antibodies which my quick research indicates are a sign of celiac disease which causes intestinal swelling, bleeding and decreased ability to digest foods which could lead to fatigue and malnutrition.  I’ll learn more after my appt with gastroenterologist Monday afternoon.  Looks like I’ll probably be put on gluten free diet.   It excited about losing pasta!

I'm sorry to hear this.  I wish you the best and hope things get better.

How about this for random:  Pete Maravich’s NCAA career scoring record (3,667 pts for 44.2 ppg) still stands after 53 years.  Do you find this as amazing as I do?

Maravich was amazing.  I'm not surprised that no one has been able to better his numbers, because what he was able to do seems impossible.  Today we boast about triple doubles, and when a player tops 40 points in "one game", we put that player on a pedestal.  Maravich topped 44 ppg.  Think about that - EVERY GAME, he put up an average of 44 points.

I don't think anyone will ever be able to duplicate those numbers.

No one will be allowed to top those numbers. His numbers were such because of volume. His career TS% in college was...not good. He averaged 38 shots a game in college for his three years. He was a gunner. It's like the consecutive appearance streak in baseball that Cal Ripken owns. We could probably let someone duplicate those numbers but it would be at the detriment of the team.
