If you are talking research tiers, there isn’t much difference between both conferences since only Baylor, BYU, and TCU are not tier 1 research schools.  The only difference is the number of AAU members and it is a selective club that only helps in bringing more research dollars to member schools.  Even the Big Ten has said that AAU membership is not a priority.

And talking of being an ass, there are those Twitter Ute fans and their attitude towards the Big 12.  BYU looks like the good guy in the eyes of the Big 12 fan base at this point.  Ute fans will be kicking themselves hard after a couple years of being in the Big 12 especially when they see the night and day difference in the fan base passion.  The same goes for the schools that go to the Big Ten.

Conference loyalty is a thing of the past at this point.  If you value that, you might as well go back to the MWC.

Sorry, the "other people were dicks to me so it is ok to be a dick to you" excuse doesn't float.

You are being a jackass and trying to kick others while they are down, celebrating not CU's accomplishment but others misfortune. USC fans and UCLA fans didn't do that, even though lots of random people on twitter gave their schools shit. You seem good with being an ass, so have fun. I will find no joy in any of the schools here suffering because of matters beyond their control.

  2. Utah could very well end up going to Big 12, as it seems finances and stability may make it irresponsible not to. I will be sad about not playing western schools in areas I prefer and being associated with top tier research Universities. If it happens, I certainly would not come here, gloat, and try to rub others noses in it. I always kind of gave Jalapeño a pass, as he seems to be kind of "special",  but he has been acting like an ass bragging about the big "invite".

I said nothing of the sort Mano.  I didn’t say CU was amazing because they were the first (or imply that).  Frankly, CU has put them in a position where they had to be one of the first.  The ducks, huskies and Utes are likely safe no matter what happens to the pac.  CU wasn’t in that position.  That said, the pac leadership should get hammered.  SC leaves and all you get are a handful of word salad press releases.

    I wasn't referring to you.

You should direct your anger at the pac, not CU.  Yesterdays statement alone was weak and meaningless.  There is a clear lack of real leadership.

This is coming from someone that wishes CU could have stayed in the pac, and really does hope it flourishes.  That said, this was a vote of no confidence, which seems completely fair.  They’ve worked on this tv deal for 13 months, and have zero to show.  They’ve now lost 25% of the conference, including the crown jewel.  You can go along with the trading up talking point, but this is largely on pac leadership.

Just amusing when a simpleton CU fan comes in swinging their dick because they "got the first invite to the Big12".

Big 12 would have taken anyone from the Pac from the moment that Texas/OU announced they were leaving until the present. Depending on how you look at it, CU decided that Big 12 was best fit, or CU panicked; either way being the first to join Big 12 is nothing to brag about.

Partnering with the academic elite didn't help Colorado.  They have dropped in terms of academic rankings since joining the PAC.

That is on CU, Utah has greatly benefitted.  Joining Big12 will certainly further lower academic reputation. I am hoping Utah can avoid this, but it may come down to survival.

Ask yourself this question: Why is CU still getting conference invites ahead of Utah despite CU sucking in football for nearly two decades?

Any Pac team that wanted in to the Big12 could have gotten the invite.  Most schools would rather be going to Seattle, San Francisco,  Salt Lake, Phoenix,  etc. than Lubbock, Waco, Stillwater,  etc. and they prefer partnering with actual academic Universities.

You must have confidence that he'll stick around.  The average length of stay for college football coaches is 3.7 years.

    My experience much different.

The point was that if he is successful he leaves for a higher profile job, if he fails he gets replaced. Allowing him to make decisions impacting CU athletic department long term would be foolish.

Cut the cord. I recently bought a fire TV recast which allows me to record over the air stations. I also bought a fire cube to access various streaming services.  I mostly watch over the air broadcast, especially PBS programming, and a lot of CNN as background. I currently have just the free services like fire recast, free sea, Hulu, Pluto TV and Roku.  So I get the PBS channels that I want and  I get the local news stations OTA and the odds sitcom that I will watch on network TV.  Remember I can record anything OTA.

The holes in My programming are live CNN and sports.  I can pick up live CNN, all of the ESPN channels, fox sports, mlb and Pac 12 network for the $40 orange sling subscription with an $11 sports package add-on total $51 a month.  That doesn’t seem too bad (equivalent service on Dish was $122). I only have to have sling orange during football season so my tv will be nearly free the rest of the year.  Savings about &1000 1 year. Any suggestions?

I might try out the orange sling service during pac 12 tourney and march madness.

I would imagine you also get Amazon Prime ( we had it for free shipping, streaming is a bonus ), Several good series have been on that,

I get Paramount + for free with my subscription to 247 sports. Has all the Taylor Sheridan shows, as well as all Star Trek series.

I get Peacock for free with Comcast Internet ( had to get their streaming box, which is free, but never set it up ).

Also have Youtube app on the firestick.

Yes, most of the rumors of the PAC's impending demise seem to come from B12 supporters. Reminds me of the AAC supporters when Texas and Oklahoma announced they were leaving the B12. The ACC honks were discussing which B12 teams was worthy of poaching.

The PAC will stay together through, at least, the end of this decade. The only place they have to go is the B12, and the PAC university Presidents do value be associated with 7 AAU schools. The B1G isn't taking any more PAC teams this round, if ever. Actually heard that both Washington and Oregon together don't reach a half-share value in the B1G and, if true, they will never get a serious look from the B1G. I expect all hell to break loose when the ACC's GOR expires in 2034 however. There are many ACC teams that are attractive to both the B1G and the SEC. Anyway, USC is more than content being on an island as they feel they are Notre Dame west. Will have to see how UCLA does but I expect to see them with "buyer's remorse" relatively quickly. They will not fare well in the B1G.

As for UCLA, their last Rose Bowl appearance was in 1999 ( 24 years ago ) and their last Rose Bowl win was in 1986 ( 37 years ago ), so they probably figure they might as well get paid, as they didn't fare all that well in the PAC either. The thing the move could screw up is their basketball program, which has actually had success.

I have no idea if what these streamers from Utah are saying about the Pac12 tv negotiations is accurate ... but if it is things are not going well: 1) tv offer of $250M, $25M per school; 2) schools divided on whether to consider selling all tier 1 rights to a streamer like Amazon (UW, Oregon, AZ, ASU against selling to streamer).

    I have

Saw who the streamer was and quit watching. Monte is an idiot.

Not my idea, but some are discussing this:

    Pod 1:
    OSU, Michigan, MSU, Penn State

    Pod 2:
    Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska

    Pod 3:
    Ilinois, Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern

    Pod 4:
    USC, UCLA, Maryland, Rutgers

I would guess rather than guaranteeing 3 transcontinental travel games every year, they would put USC and UCLA with some of the conferences bigger brands so they could get the west coast recruiting and exposure.

Michigan will likely be once every few years, but the matchup will be cool. I didnt think Minnesota had the same raucous crowd that Utah had.

I think he was more referring to the weather than the crowd. All late season road games outside of USC will be in cold weather climates when you guys leave.

  14. Ute's schedule pretty brutal this year. 11 P5 games, Baylor, Oregon State, USC and Washington all on the road. Oregon the only Pac team that is supposed to be contending that the Utes get at home.  Stanford and Wazzu are the Northern teams they miss.
