NEW YORK -- Four college basketball coaches were among those facing federal charges Tuesday in a wide probe of fraud and corruption in the NCAA, authorities said.

The coaches named in court documents are Auburn's Chuck Person, Oklahoma State's Lamont Evans, Arizona's Book Richardson and USC's Tony Bland. It was not immediately clear who would represent them at initial court appearances.

Other people named in the documents include James Gatto, director of global sports marketing at Adidas; Merl Code, who recently left Nike for Adidas; Christian Dawkins, an NBA agent who was recently fired from ASM Sports for charging approximately $42,000 in Uber charges on a player's credit card; Jonathan Brad Augustine, president of The League Initiative and program director of the Adidas-sponsored 1 Family AAU program; Munish Sood, a financial advisor; and Rishan Michel, former NBA official who founded Thompson Bespoke Clothing, a custom clothier for athletes.

According to court documents, Evans, Richardson and Bland all allegedly received benefits from Dawkins and Sood to influence student-athletes to retain their services

A few points to note:

-- This is the FBI, not the NCAA. The FBI does things differently and far more thoroughly and effectively, obviously.

-- The FBI said in its press conference: This should serve as a warning to others who conduct business this way in college sports. "We have your playbook."

-- Expect the investigation to undoubtedly expand in college basketball, and you'd have to expect it will make it's way over to college football.

-- I would say no programs are immune, especially those tied to adidas.

I totally agree with this -- how are these paltry amounts of money worth the risk?

Part greed, part succumbing to your environment. HIs environment being dirty college basketball. The dollar amount here is so insignificant. It's just ridiculous.

I'm confused as to why USC has hired Louis Freeh?  Not only is the guy a complete scumbag - https://theintercept.com/2015/01/02/louis-freehs-latest-investigation-billionaire-businessman-accused-bribing-african-government/ -- but he tore Penn State a new one when they hired him to investigate the Sandusky stuff.  USC must be very confident that Bland acted independently.
