I don’t see Sumlin as a upgrade.  Why not go all in on Frost, Norvell or Campbell?

I doubt Norvell goes out of respect for Graham, Frost can pick his alma mater, Nebraska, or Florida, and Campbell has a 9 million dollar buyout. Charlie Strong might be a good option, he wants out of USF

This. Novel wouldn't come to ASU, plus he will have far better options available to him. Also don't think ASU would fire graham to then hire from his coaching tree

I don't see what is so special about Sumlin, either.  He took teams with elite college QBs he didn't recruit, Houston with Keenum and aTm with Manziel, to very good, but not great, seasons.  He then ran Kenny Hill out of aTm, and Hill now has TCU in the Big XII title game.

Always thought Graham was kind of a douche, so don't feel bad for him, but was surprised to see him go after this season. I don't know what the ASU admin was expecting, but the Sundevils surpassed expectations that most any reasonable person would have. Unless they have a homerun hire lined up, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Todd Graham- Hired on Dec 14 2011 by JCU
Jim Mora- Hired on Dec 13 2011 by UCLA
Kevin Sumlin- Hired on Dec 12 2011 by A&M
Rich Rodriguez- Hired on Nov 22 2011 by UA

All 4 coaches had big success there first 3 years
Todd Graham 28 wins including 10 back to back 2013-2014
Jim Mora 29 wins including back to back 2013-2014
Kevin Sumlin 28 wins including 11 in 2012
Rich Rodriguez 28 wins including 10 wins 2014

All 4 hit a downward spiral after 2014
Todd Graham 18-19
Jim Mora 17-19
Kevin Sumlin 22-15
Rich Rodriguez 17-20

Highest AP rank
Todd Graham #12 2014-2015
Jim Mora #10 2014-2015
Kevin Sumlin #5 2012-2013
Rich Rodriguez #19 2014-2015

Highest Recruiting Class
Todd Graham #20 2015
Jim Mora #7 2013
Kevin Sumilin #5 2014
Rich Rodriguez #31 2014

Both Sumlin and Mora were able to bring in top 25 classes yearly and were mentioned in other jobs like -Texas/SUC/Washington/NFL

3 of them were able to bring in elite QBs Mora (Josh Rosen 2015) Sumlin (Kyle Allen 2014/Kyler Murray 2015) Graham (Brady White 2015)

The last time A&M had a winning record in conference was 2012. In fact, that's the only time Sumlin had a winning record in conference. With a Heisman winning QB he was 6-2 in conference with losses to Florida and LSU. Sumlin never beat LSU. If you look at their schedules, they played a minimum of 3 directional schools per year, and one power-5 OOC. So the 7 wins he maintained fairly consistently included 3-4 gimmees.

Recruiting rankings - #12, #8, #4, #12, #20, #11.

So, he's a good recruiter who consistently wins about 3-4 games in conference play.

To be fair, recruiting to UCLA or TAMU =\= recruiting to ASU or UA. Just about any warm body can recruit top 20 classes to UCLA and A&M

And any warm body can get into ASU or Arizona, so it's a negligible difference

Fake news.  Neither of those schools have ever had a top 10 class, and while Arizona is producing more talent now, it’s not Texas or California talent.

You intentionally missed the point, right? He compares super favorably to Case Keenum

Except Keenum is the starting QB for the Minnesota Vikings, and Taylor Kelly is doing whatever it is Taylor Kelly does these days.

Kelly was nowhere near the college QB Keenum was, either.   I'm not getting Bug's point.
