The guide was telling us his 43 year old brother died from the Corona virus a month ago, and that he had an aunt and uncle who both had it, and that he did not expect his uncle to make it through the day. But, it turns out he is a big Trump supporter, and he proceeded to tell us that he thought that the media was over blowing the pandemic to make Trump look bad. I just don't get it. There’s nothing wrong with teachers unions being consumed with self interest rather than the public good. The hypocrisy of using the children as shields in their battles With school boards gets a little tiresome. They're consistently assailed with budget cuts for education in every state, and they have an entire political party on their ass, CONSTANTLY, for teaching kids such controversial subjects as evolution and slavery. Right...because nearly the entire state of Oregon teachers walked out for a day last year because of our own self-interest...oh wait, it was because we knew funding was needed to increase mental health services and without pressure the state would continue to wiggle out of it. Are teachers all saints? No, of course not. But teachers select a profession that pays less and continually pick up the slack to serve kids that our society continually devalues.
