when your franchise has no history or past accomplishments (like mine!), fans tend to hold onto beloved players. you can't walk through safeco without seeing griffey, edgar, or ichiro jerseys. you'll probably see helton and tulo jerseys for a loooooong time.

The A's sure have had a weird start to the season.  They are 9-7 overall but are the only MLB team that is still undefeated on the road, going a perfect 6-0 so far with sweeps over the M's and Yanks.  The A's put their perfect road record against the Dangerous Blue Jays but so far, the A's lead 4-1 in the 4th.  Looking at the A's roster, I don't understand how they are a competitive MLB team.  The one hitter they signed to a big deal is playing so bad, he no longer gets at bats.  Everyone else is a journeyman castoff that nobody really wanted.

could be a big night for felix. a win will tie him with jamie moyer for the franchise lead, one K will break randy johnson's franchise record.

if our offense wasn't dedicated to sabatoging him, felix of course would have broken the all-time win mark two years ago.

texas 10-9

oakland 10-9

seattle 9-9

laa 8-11

houston 6-13

sup with houston? by far the worst pitching staff in the division (scratch that -- the entire AL). dallas keuchel (reigning cy young) has been pedestrian at best. feldmen has been bad. mchugh, fister and fiers have been atrocious. note: i say that knowing full well that we start a 3-game series with them tonight @ safeco, and they'll likely shut us the fuck down. but that's life as a mariner fan.

speaking of those lovable m's, they've won each of their 4 road series (8-4 record), and lost both home series (1-5). same story, different year: offense can't do jack at home, but is downright decent away from The Safe. the pitching staff has the 4th best era in the AL. fluky stat: we've won 9 games, and have had 9 different winning pitchers.

Brief moment to pimp out ex-Beavers:

Michael Conforto is becoming a nightmare for NL east pitchers, batting .342 with 4 homers already.  He gave the Mets a big boost at the end of last year, and it's appearing to be no fluke.  A triple short of the cycle the other day.  He's also becoming a more selective hitter.

Ellsbury may be breaking out of his early-season slump, and that bodes well for the Yanks.  Last night he had 2 doubles versus the Sox, and reached on a HBP.  He's getting on base, and making contact.  For $100M+ he needs this to be automatic, tho.

i was screaming for the mariners to take conforto (a position of need, nearly mlb-ready) but we took an 18 year old catcher with a long injury history who hit .207 in short season rookie ball and has been shut down since the end of last year. mariners gonna mariner.

its probably good for conforto a real organization took him, though. we have a cleveland brown-like effect on young talent.
