I agree, business casual is fine, but some take it too far.  I don't know if it's a generational thing.  I see it worse among my colleagues in late 30s, early 40s.  (I'm 40)

Last company was a financial tech start up full of 25 year old software engineers. My oh my, causal was abused. Lazy but super smart. That is now our world.

It sounds to me like tech startups are their own world.  I know nothing of it.

We had dudes riding skateboards around the office. Free lunch catered everyday. Beer and booze in stock and drinking meetings. I worried about liability here but no one ever abused it. Amazing. The vibe here was great and so different than that corporate dinasour at large companies. As a 43 year old, quite  shocking. You couldn’t get through that door without a very high IQ, so it was great to see so many smart people building an airplane in the air.

With my job where I don't meet customers in person, it's basically blue jeans and a t-shirt in the office for me.  This 39 year old doesn't mind.

When the Secretary of the Interior or government high ups visit, it's suit and tie day which is pretty rare these days.

The thought of you in any power/influential/decision making government type position making decisions for the good people of this country is downright scary.

Hopefully, it’s something low level.

Working for the government is not anywhere close to what you think it is.  Congress really runs the show and the number of government workers who might be up to no good is less than half of a percent.  You don't pay your taxes and bills, you are out of a job and you don't have as much privacy in your life.

If congressmen can get caught for child pornography, the typical government worker will get caught as well.

I once asked Secretary of the Interior Ken Salzar whether President Obama was enjoying Jay Cutler as the Bears QB after being traded by the Broncos and everyone LOL-ed in the room.  I hope he asked Obama that question.

I might be a simple worker who doesn't make those important people but I can talk with a presidential cabinet member and there is a chance the POTUS could hear about an ordinary person like me.  Pretty cool and scary at the same time.

The thing is, to grow a beard that is full enough to be large and trimmed and shapely, you have to go through months, weeks if you're lucky, of scraggly crotch face (as the Mrs. calls it). But, with proper non-trimming, oil regiment and balms and whatnot, they look just fine in any setting.

I was with you on all of this until the shoes. NB's are my very most favorite running shoe. I do make fun of people in cargo shorts (unless out hiking), what the heck are you carrying in those things?
