Coaching Changes

Pretty good read from Canzano about UO trying to hang on to Cristobal.

Greg Hansen, longtime columnist at The Arizona Daily Star, wrote about the longevity in the conference this week. He looked at the last 50 years of Pac-12 football coaches. That’s nearly 100 coaches in all. Hansen could only find four examples of coaches who stuck it out from start to finish -- Terry Donahue (UCLA), Don James (Washington), Bill McCartney (Colorado) and Mike Bellotti (Oregon).

Two CU assistants I was hoping the next coach would have a chance to retain ended up going to Michigan State with Tucker.  They are Jay Johnson (OC) and Chris Kapolvic (OL).  CU gets $125K from the early termination of those contracts.

CU has reached out to Eric Bienemy and the interest is mutual.  You got Bret Bielema and given his background of run heavy offenses, I'm warming up to him.  Former USC & UW coack Sark and Arkansas State HC Blake Anderson also have mutual interest in the job.  Former UCLA coach Mora Jr has expressed interest in the CU job as well.

Cal coach Jim Wilcox also mentioned for the CU job as well as Jim McElwain.

Sark is apparently interviewing today.  Not sure I buy this.

Sark might be one to jump ship like Tucker.  I'm getting the feeling it is Calhoun and at this point, CU has played in two bowl games since 2006.  Two bowl games in 13 or 14 seasons.  If Calhoun can get us to bowl games like Tad Boyle gets CU basketball to post season tourneys, I would be very happy.  CU has a nice stable of RBs and the two finalists would indicate that CU wants to continue its return to a strong running game.  Tucker brought in two good classes to CU and whoever coaches CU can look forward to a nice season like maybe 2016 in a couple of years.

At this point, Sark appears to be the one that got the CU offer and perhaps he will be the next CU coach.  Calhoun is at AFA's practice today so it apparently looks like he's not getting the CU job just yet...more like a backup option in case Sark declines.

But there's a BOR meeting for CU this Friday to discuss a coaching contract.  Sounds done at this point.
